My story and practice

My daily spiritual practice revolves around devotion, dedication, and surrender. It is deeply personal and evolves as I continue to grow. My practice can vary in time and intensity based on my needs but it always includes prayer, movement, meditation, time in nature, and self-inquiry. Most importantly, even if it is five minutes, I strive to practice every day.

My practice is not just my morning routine but shapes how I approach all aspects of my life – how I meditate, how I eat, how I work, and how I show up in my relationships. Through surrendering to the flow, I have discovered that gratitude, calmness, joy, and connection continue to grow. This is what motivates me.

I've been there too

I have experienced great privilege, as well as sexual abuse, loss, and trauma. For many years, I battled with depression and anxiety, often feeling overwhelmed by darkness, experiencing panic attacks, and grappling with thoughts of suicide.

At the time, I struggled to understand what was happening to me but was suffering, feeling trapped in my pain and unsure of how to get out. I seemed functional to others and that increased my feelings of isolation, not knowing how to ask for help.

Now, my life is freer than I ever thought possible

Therapy helped, but finding yoga and meditation changed my life and empowered me to take ownership of my healing journey. It helped me befriend my body and process the trauma, transforming my mind and life. It was the beginning of the development of The Anjuli Method.

Sometimes, it's easy for me to forget the immense pain and hopelessness I once felt. While life still presents its share of challenges, I now possess the tools and practices to face them head-on and navigate through them.

I have expanded my perception beyond what I knew to be possible and have learned to embrace life in all its intricate beauty and messiness. It seems that every week I find a new joy or superpower that this path brings - I invite you to join me on the journey!

My qualifications

What I do is an unusual mix of many modalities. Here is what makes me uniquely qualified to work with you on your journey.

Psychology

1991

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology - Mills College

Through my course of study in Psychology, I learned about human development across the lifespan (both normal and abnormal), attachment, social psychology, and biological psychology. This overview gave me a foundational understanding of the human psyche and motivation.

My introduction to attachment theory was key to understanding human relationships and parenting dynamics and later contributed to my keen interest in the neurobiology of attachment. In the intervening years of my degree, I continued to read and study emerging psychological literature, particularly topics such as trauma, somatics, and the brain.

Range Management

1998

Master of Science in Range Management - UC Berkeley

At the School of Environmental Science, Policy and Management I studied the ecology and management of California Oak Woodlands. While this may seem tangential, my training as a scientist is an important part of how I view the world.

Ecology is the study of the interconnections and causal dynamics between living organisms and their environment, including humans. It looks for patterns and changes over time. Studying ecology built my expertise in observing connections, which is directly relevant to what I do now.

In addition, my education about the design, implementation, and interpretation of scientific research has helped me to understand how to evaluate the truth and usefulness of scientific information. It has also helped me to understand the limitations of science and increased my appreciation for the application of the scientific method in life.

Environmental Science Education

15 years

Environmental Science Educator

I spent 15 years in environmental education and program development with both non-profit organizations and the University of California Cooperative Extension. This gave me a clear understanding of adult learning styles and the types of education that drive behavior change which informs The Anjuli Method.
